It is simply not true that the problem with cigarette smoke migrating from the Bonfire Grill to the Cafe Latte is behind the move to ban smoking in bars and restaurants. I believe Councilman Thune's proposal was made without reference to the Bonfire issue and it came well after many other cities had already passed smoking bans. It just won't wash to try to paint a smoking ban as a general solution to the specific problem at the Bonfire. It's an attempt to make the indoor air in these public establishments healthy to breathe for employees and patrons. Philosophically it's no different than requiring that these establishments maintain minimum standards of cleanliness.
And it will impose minimal cost to smokers. It's not much of a hardship to ask people to step outside to smoke after all.
