I caucused in ward 4 where we had a good turnout. My precinct passed a
resolution calling on the city to pass a complete ban on smoking in bars
and restaurants. Interestingly, that was passed BEFORE I arrived. We
also passed resolutions related to a twins stadium (no) and transit
(yes).

I sensed that there was stronger support for Ortega than Coleman.
Ortega seemed most comfortable talking about his history and the
projects he has worked on directly. He did appear a bit nervous,
something I suspect he will overcome as the process moves forward.

Coleman gave an excellent stump speech. He came across as confident and
likable. He seemed to hit on subjects the very liberal audience wanted
to hear about. It almost appeared too scripted but I suspect that those
who did not know anything about either candidate would come away
thinking Raphael was a nice guy but Coleman was more polished.

People did not have any chance to ask important questions. It was
pretty much stump speech, move on to the next stop.

There were two overly long presentations. Amy Klobuchar gave a good
stump speech but went ON AND ONN and ONNNNN about her desire to
replace Dayton. They also had a very pleasant minister deliver a
'meditation' (sermon) at the beginning. Klobuchar may have taken her
clue from him... there is no limit to the amount of time I have here to
present my point of view.

All in all a very pleasant evening with a bunch of liberal, friendly,
enthusiastic Dems.
