I just wanted to say that I was shocked that there was as good of a turn out at
Monroe School where 1/3 of Ward 2 caucused (the "Hill" and the Valley (W 7th)
people do actually get along). Every precinct had at least a dozen people and
some had two dozen, which was more than I thought would be there considering
how everyone keeps declaring the DFL dead. Since Coleman and Ortega are both
from Ward 2 I didn't expect to see them and I was right they were both off
introducing themselves to people who haven't met them. Thune was there in a
sling crying about all the heavy lifting at City Hall had dislocated his
shoulder... we weren't buying it he lives in the precinct. Our State Rep.
Carlos M spoke for Ortega and Gentleman George spoke for Coleman. The cute
point was when George mentioned that he had called some of the people in the
precinct and then recognized one woman and said, "Oh you're the one who said
you'd rather die than vote for Chris Coleman, you know you don't have to go to
the convention."

I was in the Irvine Park precinct where Chris wasn't very popular for his lack
of assistance in dealing with the neighborhood's concern about the Centex
development on the river (heights/site lines). Again not taking a position one
way or another, but Tim you could add this one to GSE as a local issue where
the Chamber weighed in with a position and the neighborhood felt Coleman locked
in with the Chamber instead of working with the neighbors. One of the
residents commented on how much more progress they are making with Centex now
that Thune is on the council. His comments were that the neighbors now get to
negotiate directly with Centex instead of having the City advocate Centex
position. (Again I know nothing about those discussion only hearing the report)

They also passed a resolution opposed to the airport dike, (Tim, I guess that
is another one you can add to the list of where Coleman was with the Chamber
over the neighbors... again not that I have a position one way or another) and
a resolution against a Casino in Saint Paul.
