I live across the street from a retired cop. He was a detective for most of his career, but benefitted from "spiking" at the end of his career. That's where he received promotions in rapid succession to maximize his guaranteed pension benefit payout. He retired as a captain and now makes far more money in retirement than he ever did while working. And he was only 55 when he retired.
The state of California is going broke because its pension obligations for retired police and firefighters, as well as other state employees such as teachers and school administrators. All this thanks to Jerry Brown, who allowed government employees to become unionized, and Gray Davis who agreed to allow police and firefighters to retire at 100% of their pay. As far as I'm concerned, you can treat cops and teachers the same by getting rid of their taxpayer guaranteed benefit pension plans and convert them to guaranteed contribution plans like the private sector. Get rid of the teachers unions as well as the police and firefighter unions, too. In principle, I'm not opposed to privatizing city services such as police and fire departments, but I'm not familiar the firm Xe that you mentioned. As for the Tea Partiers, there is no Tea Party platform on any issue let alone one regarding our military. Some Tea Partiers support military cuts, others don't. Some support pulling out of Afghanistan, others don't. But since you continue to erroneously equate them to Republicans, I understand your confusion. Tea Partiers are consistent on a few things, namely reducing federal spending and the size of federal government. Less federal government intrusion is also high on their list. Many of them are Libertarians at heart.
