Sigh.

The very next sentence reads:

"Understandable, but completely unjustifiable: people obviously have a right to
film or photograph what goes on in public places."

And a comment from Steve Hayward:

"Police mis-behavior is a problem conservatives don't often think about enough.
Although we want law and order, and have no sympathy for criminal behavior, the
police are too often just bureaucrats in uniform."

A comment from another tea partier:

"...not the cliched left v right but the one about what should be the
relationship of the citizenry to the state."

A comment from the author of the article:

"We like lawfulness and order, but we also don't want to entrust any more power
to government than necessary. Abuse of power by policemen, as by EPA
bureaucrats, illustrates why we conservatives want more power in private hands,
and less in public."

Nick Gillespie and John Stossel, Libertarians both (as are many Tea Partiers),
argue forcefully that citizens should be allowed to record police.
