my opinion on a tricky topic..
i think it depends a bit on what the users are doing, i.e. 60 users
running large screen flash apps (say in a student lab) would make a 210
herniate :) and a 100 on a v440 could come close too - depending on what
they're doing, tho for basic user tasks should be ok.
if ur using gnome make sure thats tuned too....
Dave,
interested in your comments re the 440. We currently have a 210 running 20-30
SunRay's however we can potentially have up to 150 idle sessions. I have
noticed that when we get to about 60 there is quite a slow down. I assume
that we are simply asking too much from the server? We are considering
running a cron script to log out sessions that have been idle for an extended
period. Thoughts? We are also looking at an application for a 440 with 100
SunRays with a user to DTU ratio of about 3:1 That is up to about 200 idle
sessions and 100 active sessions at any one time - is this asking too much of
a 440?

Hi Gerard,
Your 440 will handle at least 100 users. I don't believe any dual processor
X86 box can handle near the load of a 440. I have 1500 Sun Rays
across 4 networks. I have ran 100 users on E420R with fair results,
The 440 has at least 8 times the horsepower. I also have a 480
supporting 125 with a cross campus configuration. If you have
specific questions E-mail me.
