Without even trying, I can think of a dozen scenarios that could result in stuff like this making its way out into the wild. For Sun's sake I sure hope nothing "important" is riding on the assumption that everything will go (and stay) exactly where management intended.

And I hope that people making business decisions
think about support for the components they build
their solutions on. If you buy it from Sun, we'll
support it and guarantee it will work. If you buy
it from Vladimir's Garage, you need to make your
support arrangements with him and we offer no
guarantees. That's the real world, folks. For
all the EBay and OpenSource/Freeware in the world,
nothing's really free. There are often hidden costs
and you need to use prudence in how you build your
solutions.

FWIW, I've bought my personal-use Sun Rays from
EBay as well. Worked for me, but I knew the risk
I was taking when I bought them. If I were trying
to run a business off of them I'd certainly think
twice.

I recently bought some (turned out to be)
counterfeit flea meds for my cats on the Internet.
It also was 'cheap', relatively speaking, but very
expensive for the water that turned out was in the
bottles instead of what was advertised. Cost
about as much as a new Sun Ray, too :-)

Actually, yes we do. That's why there are OEM contracts, lawyers, etc.

You guys don't *really* believe stuff like this will never make it out into the wild, do you?

(I have an Ultra1 with PCI slots instead of Sbus, a buddy of mine has a SPARCstation-10 that says "SPARCstation-3" on the front...)
