Hi Trevor, all,
I know that the setup of the Access Kit is not that straight forward, as
there are so many tiers and steps involved. I have summarized the setup
procedure in a cookbook for demos:

This should make it fairly simple ;-)

I will be implementing a 250 user VDI/SunRay environment for a client.
So I wanted to do some testing with the new Sun VDA Kit.
I have the client/service/tools installed, but I am a little confused on
configuring the service via the vda.properties file.
The first thing is the path format. All the examples have something
along the line of "/Datacenter/vm/Pool". I know what our datacenter is
called, I assume I replace Datacenter with that. Where does the rest of
the path come from? On the ESX service console, the path is
/vmfs/volumes/{shared storage}/{VMs}. Is this path releated? Or is the
path used something the VC API understands, which I know I sure don't.
The format reflects the internal hierarchy as it is used by the SDK.
Each datacenter has a 'vm' and 'host' subfolder. If you use the mob -
managed object browser - you get a fairly good understanding of his
model. You can invoke it through the browser http://yourhost/mob e.g.
The second thing is, how can you tie certain users(smartcard tokens), to
static VMs? I imagine the golden image and pooling will be used, but
there's going to be cases where exceptions or manual mapping will be
needed. I assume this data is kept in the MSDE database. I got a little
DB experience but not with any of MS products. I found the osql command,
but I can't seem to get SQL prompt. Does anyone know the login
information and anything else I would need to connect?
There is a static mapping. If you rename a VM into the username or token
and put this VM into the static folder, the VM will automatically
picked up. Either by the token, that is inserted into the DTU or through
a mapping, e.g. registering the token to a user. The scripts provided by
the access kit contain an example for how to fetch the userid from the
token.
