I'm getting ready to build a new SRSS server. For the last few years, I've been using Solaris as the server OS because the general impression was that it was a better platform for the software. My preference would be to use Linux, as that is what I am more comfortable managing. So here's my question: how does running the latest SRSS on Linux compare to running on Solaris? What works or doesn't work? What gotchas are there? Any particularly nasty hacks necessary for a good user experience?

We are currently not using VDI with our Sunrays, only uttsc to WTS 2003, and xephyr for XDMCP to a Linux host for a Linux desktop. The plan is to replace the WTS 2003 servers with 2008 this summer. By using Linux as the host OS, I'm hoping to get a better desktop experience for Linux users. XDMCP is fine for getting a basic desktop, but you lose things like USB and audio support.

Any comments are welcome.

Thanks.
Seth
