As root, in a console you must execute this commands:
gconftool-2 --direct --config-source
xml:readwrite:/etc/gconf/gconf.xml.defaults --type bool --set
/desktop/gnome/sound/event_sounds false
gconftool-2 --direct --config-source
xml:readwrite:/etc/gconf/gconf.xml.defaults --type bool --set
/desktop/gnome/sound/enable_esd false
It works under Solaris and Redhat.

We are using FF 3.6.17. My sound keys do work with GNOME and the
Sun
keyboard. This if for SRS 5.2 which is plagued by the redraw
issue.
We plan to upgrade to 5.2.1 tomorrow.
