Actually, IIRC, DivX (DVD type) required special players that would play 
standard & DivX discs. DivX discs would NOT work on regular players. The way 
it was supposed to work was that you'd but a DivX DVD for, say, $9.95. You 
could watch it a certain number of times within 72 hours of the first play. 
After that, your DivX player would have to dial up your account to get an 
authorization for about $3.95 for each subsequent play. There was also a way 
to make the DivX DVD a "Golden" one with permanent play-ability. I think the 
charge was $19.95. Yes, you could toss it after the first playing.

My reference regarding the pay everytime you paid was to the later 
charge-per-play. Sorry if you think that was being sarcastic. I thought that 
the system had been resurrected by MicroSoft. There should be a law against 
using the same name for two different technologies!
