Thanks for the comment, Nancy -

My brother bought a USB reader for his G4 and he's happy with it.
We were issued Lexar Type 1 PCMCIA cards for the DCS cameras during my newspaper
days.
Also used a PCMCIA adapter card for reading smart media cards out of reporters'
smaller "idiot" cameras.
For downloading from the cards, a SCSI Microtech reader was used instead of hooking
up the firewire cable between the camera and Mac.
(No Firewire readers back then.)
One thing I found out is under OS-X, the Microtech firewire reader will see the
cards only as ReadOnly that is write protected.
After transferring the contents, the card has be ejected and the reader unplugged
and plugged back in for reading another card.
(But this means the reader can't be used for reformatting the cards, which is a good
idea to stay out of trouble.)
No big deal, I guess, with hot-plugability of Firewire.
This may not be an issue under OS 9.X.

Luckily, this stuff will be useable on any new Apple that may come along at some
point.
Maybe I should get rid of one of the cars that's just sitting around.....Happy
spouse and new toy for me.

As for dual format reader, I'll have to check on that.
Most higher pixel prosumer and pro cameras seem to be mostly compact flash these
days.
And only the USB Mircrotech reader offers dual format. (But at $49, what a great buy
!)
