one more quick comment on this thread...
the patch panel method i used, a 6' high 19" rack, with metal panels and a
shelf for the firewall, can get a little pricey. at the time, i didn't see
any real alternatives. since then, Leviton has started marketing a small
patch center device that would screw down to a piece of plywood like any
telco equipment normally does. it might serve well, at a lower cost. i've
not gotten my hands on one, so i can't say from first hand experience.
they're available at home despot as well.
