In the last day or two, all of my HTML file icons have converted to generic text files and don't recognize the program that made them.
Even files saved now from IE, Netscape, or GoLive are generic, and this shows up even when I boot into another OS ( 9.1) and save there, although I was using 8.1 when the issue started. Had a program fail to start because it couldn't find "MJPSubPorts" and after searching in vain, I reinstalled OS 8.1 to an empty partition and replaced MRJ Library in the active system. Norton was picking up an error in the address count, but couldn't fix it and Disk First Aid couldn't find anything wrong. Somewhere along the way I recall the desktop being restored on its own, but that was before the Norton error. Don't have a clue what happened, and everything checks out OK, but the generic file problem continues. TechTool lite says OK. This is on S900 G4/450, about 450 megs of tested RAM, one 4 GIG HFS drive, and one 18 GIG HFS+. I did get into a little jam when tried to restart the new OS 8.0 on HFS+ partition, but Norton CD and ZIP OS 8.1 got me around that. Still things hung for a while trying to start up on 8.0. Should I zap PRAM. Heard there might be a problem with doing that and Adaptec 2940 working, which I'm using. Looking for any clues, but what I need is a fix. Don't know if reinstall of applications will make a difference. Been checking Mac Easy Open panel, and Default Apps, but not coming up with anything significant. What do you do when the little things start messing up? When you're trying to build a site, they aren't that little. Thanks for any help.
