One thing to keep in mind is Epson inks (or the so-called compatible refills)
dry fairly fast.
The jets and ink pickup posts that puncture the cartridge will be contaminated
with dry ink
if you don't remove the old and install a new one right away.
Many Epson printers have failed and some causes have emerged -
Infrequent usage - The jets needs to be exercised at least several time a week.
For folks living in conditioned air space (dry air), they need to be used more
often.
Removal of cartridge for extended period - For Epson, this could be only several
minutes.
I saw one printer that was rendered useless with no chance of revival because
the owner removed the cartridges thinking
it would help preserve the ink. For an Epson printer, this is the worse thing
that can be done.
I've had zero problems with the Photo 700 printer, which is going on nearly 5
years.
Although many folks are successfully using refills, I haven't had the nerves to
try them.
