Sybil sent me a scsi probe app to try out. unfortunately it saw the drive but also displayed it as an unmountable volume.
I guess I will try to stick this thing in a real ide setup in hopes it might access it. thanks for all the advice so far people. despite the problems. I have figured out that some of my other tech problems relate to the ATI video drivers I have in.
