Actually, there are some mathematical limits, but I can't recall all the
variables -- like whether they applied to the Tsunami (S900, S910, J700)
logic boards or just the Alchemy ones (C500, C600). I'll try to check with
another ex-UCC'er this week.

With the 603 (and 604?) architecture, the maximum processor speed is 6x the
bus speed -- meaning in a C500 or C600, the fastest 603e processor that
could be used was 240MHz (6 x 40MHz). CacheDoubler got around this by
creating a mini-bus running at 80MHz, thus raising the maximum possible 603
speed to 480MHz. The fastest 604 speed would be 300MHz (6 x 50MHz).

With a G3, the maximum processor speed is 8x the system bus speed, or 320MHz
in an Alchemy system and 400MHz in a Tsunami system. G4's may apply an even
higher multiplier.

Of course, if anyone's actually running a G3 at faster than 400MHz in an
SuperMac Tsunami system, then there are some holes in the plot.
