I did not have the Atapi. I had swapped drives around and added an internal zip and Jaz at the same time. It freaked out the 900. I ended up loosing the info on the drive in question just for time sake. The 900 has a sensitive Mother B Seems to not carry alot of boot stress. I added an ATTO fibre chanel card which really taxed the board beyond limits. Had to boot with the card out of the fibre chain then once stable hot plug it back in and then boot the fibre chanel network.(the card was never un-pluged just the wire link). Big pain so I eliminated it from the net and utilized the 900s as support stations for mild Photoshop, quark etc. I am still having good luck with the Newer Card though. I know it is outdated and they are dead but it works still.
Good luck! Tom, Intriguing that you had both the VST ATA/66 card and an Atapi Zip. I do wonder if there is a common thread here. But I again tried disconnecting the Atapi Zi before boot up and it didn't seem to make the "This Disk is unreadable by this computer. Do you want to initialize it? Dos 720" alert go away. > I have seen this before. on my 900 w/NewerTecG3 card. Does it happen when > you boot from CD? You might try running Norton or similar. Well I used to have a Newertech G3 300 card in here but not for about 4 months. I've run utilities, rebuilt desktop, zapped, cudad. Battery is relatively new. I guess I just need to try some different things and see what might work. It is interesting that others here have come across this before. George, did you have an Atapi Zip or VST ATA/66 card as well? I do wonder what would happen if I allowed it to initialize? If this issue is related to the VST IDE Card, I'd be somewhat concerned that it might be sensing the IDE drive and end up wiping that. The notice seems to occur just as the main ide drive is about to mount, then when I tell the alert to Eject, the rest of the desktop shows up. So right now the mystery prevails.
