One other thing worth mentioning. It's a pain but maybe you could add a network card to the PC or Mac and share the connection with that box as a gateway/router. With the satellite internet service I have there is no choice but to set up my home LAN via a PC--those little router/switches won't work. Using ICS on a Win2k or XP box is fairly straightforward. OS 9.x and earlier has no native sharing (a real shortcoming) so something like IP NetRouter has to be used. Set up ICS on the gateway and set high security on Zone Alarm and test it out on at one of several websites (pcpitstop.com as an example) to see if your firewall allows any open ports.
