Hi Kim, The versions of ADS that are part of a standard installation of System 7.5 worked only with Apple-ROMed SCSI drives, and just about any IDE drive except Western Digital. The version that comes with OS 8.5.1 and later works with most models--SCSI and IDE--manufactured in the last four years or so, including the Quantum Fireballs and Micropolis that were standard with many S900s, with the notable exception of Western Digital. If Chris has one of those WD drives, then yes indeed he'll need HDT. IME, they are much two squirrely to run reliably with anything else under Mac OS, though they seem to be OK under Windows. In any event, all of this and a great deal more is included in the bootable CD I offered Chris. The drivers are included in the standard installation, so there's no savings by bundling third party software. However at the time that the UCC models were introduced, it made a great deal of sense to bundle HDT, since ADS was not what it became in later versions. My guess is that UCC saved money by skimping on quality assurance when purchasing lots of drives. Peace, paul -- Paul F.
