actually, the sound tv set's usually make, is about 16khz, and normal,
young ears can hear to about 20khz. i'm almost 40 and i can still hear
it. it's usually caused by the high voltage transformer and or
deflection yoke, which run at that frequency, and it is very, very
annoying with some sets. sometimes there's a loose winding, some sets
let the sound out better, and likely some flybacks and deflection yokes
just magnetorestrict more than others (i.e. constrict under the magnetic
field they generate, and spring as it decreases). in my experience, 2
sets or monitors of the same model may show one that's loud and one that
isn't, but it doesn't seem to make them particularly more likely to
fail. now, i have heard an ultrasonic humidifier, but it may have been
exciting a subharmonic that was audible, it's hard to say, high
frequencies do some odd things.
