I'm 21 and don't have especially good hearing, but ever since I can remember sometimes when I was watching TV I would hear a high pitched noise, much like the one this computer makes. It was annoying and I would say "Do you hear THAT?" to anyone who was around, but they could never hear it. I'll see if I can get anyone else to hear the whine from my S900. Maybe I just have super-human hearing that gives me the amazing power to hear annoying high pitched electronic noises that no one else can. Great. =o) To which I respond, You haven't specified what you mean by 'unplugging the computer', but it may be the monitor that is causing the whine. I'm not a CRT guy, but many TV sets have an auditable high frequency whine from some of the sync/control electronics. Generally speaking, this is not noticeable with TV's due to the volume of the audio and the distance the view is from the set. However, computer monitors are 'up close and personal'. If you are leaving the monitor on in power save mode, you might try turning it off. Of course, this wont help while you are actually using the machine. I wouldn't get a red cape just yet, many folks have excellent high frequency hearing, even some of the older folks. From the above reference to watching TV, it sounds like you sat close to the TV as a youngster, not uncommon. -- SuperMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
