Well it doesn't seem like something someone would remove. Perhaps 
your machine was one near the end of Clones being sold. In which case 
they may have been out of the cages. Also some companies and people 
bought parts and put machines together and sold them. You can still 
find "new" machines made from parts now if you look hard enough. So 
anything is possible.
The fan plug is small 2 or 3 pins like the size of the audio plug on 
the CDROM player. It is labeled "fan pwr" and is near the edge of the 
motherboard close to the main CPU slot between "j28 reset" and 'j44 
mic" which is at the edge. There are lots of plugs and wires here so 
would be easy to miss. No biggy you can always use a fan with a drive 
power plug on it. Will S
