On Tuesday, November 19, 2002 3:14 PM, Michael Grogg opined: Pete, Have you tried disabling the start up memory test by holding down the Opt+Cmd keys while opening the Memory Control Panel? Not doing so often extends startup times considerably. In fact, some users have reported hour-long delays, especially when RAM is maxed at 1GB. Often what seems like a crash is actually this loooong delay.
Michael G. ---- Hi Michael, In the FWIW department, my 'good' S900 with 1GB Ram has about a one minute delay on grey screen, presumably during the memory check. Total boot time under MacOS 9.1 is ~2:30 or thereabouts. OS X is ~3-3:30 IIRC. Even given the caveat of YMMV, I would think anything over 5 minutes or so is a definite indication of some sort of problem. Even if the machine seems normal after a protracted boot. -- SuperMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
