James: First off, what kind of Mac do you have? Assuming it's an older or even Pre-PowerMac, try the following sites: ttp://www.info.apple.com/support/oldersoftwarelist.html http://w3.trib.com/~dwood/oldmac.shtml www.versiontracker.com Also, MacAddict magazine is a great resource and comes with a CD every month. Lately it is mostly OSX stuff, but they do include some stuff that supports older OS's. > I want to get more used to the mac os before I spend any money on this > machine. It is shareware and supports cross-platform zip files from PC's. Not sure about multi-disk archives, and I don't know what RAR means. If you have ethernet on both machines, you can get a crossover cable and copy files back & forth using an application such as DAVE (for the Mac) or PCMacLan (for the PC). These are not free, but they work great for networking Macs & PCs. I personally use PCMacLan at my office where my PC resides happily on my AppleTalk/Ethernet LAN.
