Most of the Hard drives in these machines were formated using FWB and if still using the version that came with the machine no way will it run OS 9.1. FWB upgrades that will run 9.1 are not free nor do I recommend you buy the upgrade. Many of the hard drives can be formated using Apple drive setup which comes with the Mac OS. A large number of machines did come with I think a 2gb Western Digital drive that will not work with Apple drive setup. Sorry but software from Apple will work with a clone CD player????I think not! You can either be sure to keep a copy of the FWB cd toolkit from your current install or download an older Apple driver that was the only universal CD driver made by Apple and not likely available from them. Intech's CD speed tools is likely the very best but not free, www.macdrivermuseum.com/disk.html has the free Apple drivers get 5.3.1 for the drive and 5.3.2 for audio disks.
24mb of ram is not going to be enough for ram hungary 9.1 which is really the only drawback to using it. While 8.0 may run fine with 24mb of ram i seem to remember 48mb as bare min with 8.6 and 9.1 is even more ram hungary not sure about min needed. Mac 0S8.1 is a free download from Apple and no one should be using 8.0 but 8.1 as it has many bug fixes. 8.6 and 9.1 are both great on our old machines but 9.1 is much more modern and likely is near the same price now a days. If you can find 8.5 at a good price 8.6 upgrade is a free Apple download. best of luck Will S PS just re-read your post and see you already have 9.1 buy some more ram and forget 8.6. You may need to re-formate your hard drive to install 9.1 so be sure to save copies of anything you need. -- SuperMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
