Hello; Pleased to say that I've successfully (and so painlessly) upgraded the OS from 8.0 to 8.6. Thanks to all who responded to my prior posting.
However, I've not been so successful in upgrading the RAM. Ordered two 64 MB DIMMS. Received yesterday (finally - first shipment lost in the postal system quagmire....) in error one 16 MB DIMM and one 64 MB DIMM. I will be contacting the supplier regarding the receipt of the wrong DIMM. However, I am unable to get the computer to recognize the 64MB stick. Left the original 8 MB stick in, added the 64. Reset the cuda button (this did work, as lost correct time of day, etc). Reseated the the RAM. No joy. Numerous removals and reseats, restarts, resets... Same result - just recognizes the original 24 MB. When I ordered, I did specify the EDO 5 volt 2k refresh rate, 70ns or better, etc. The DIMM sticker says it's made by Toshiba, 64 MB, 5400 (assuming this would be the performa 5400, which is similar to the C600) I think the RAM *should* work - not sure why it isn't. The one thing I didn't try was adding the 16 MB stick to see if it was recognized. It's sticker says 16 LDM - 64G -6FPM (5VB); 16 MB *LDM* 2x64-6. Don't know if that says anything I need to know or not! Any thoughts before I call the vendor and vent my frustrations??
