Sound like a pretty good plan. Especially if the Sonnet G4/800 upgrade 
comes down in price. She could have a near 1GHz machine for a rock 
bottom price. If you haven't heard about that check it out here 
<www.sonnettech.com>. Plus they might have all the bugs worked out.

As for the ATA card check out the ACARD AHard PCI Ultra ATA/66 (long 
name isn't it). The Sonnet cards are based on these. OWC has them for 
$54.00 right now. I think they are cheaper if you are on the mailing 
list. They also have a pretty good price on 128MB DIMMS. I've never had 
an issue with them, even under OSX. Not always the rock bottom 
cheapest, but good service and very fairly priced.

I could never afford a new machine, so I've pushed these very far on a 
VERY limited budget. Usually buying the parts second hand.
