Keith, I'm assuming that the zip drive is bootable (I know that jaz drives are). a) you can hold down command-option-shift-delete at start-up to force the machine to boot off the next partition (which should be the zip) b) you can unplug the 2GB and see if the machine will boot off of the zip c) RISKY: you can remove the system file from the 2GB system folder (to the desktop for example) and see if it will boot off of the zip - This leaves you no fallback except a floppy if it doesn't work however I think that your system folder is not 'blessed'. Check the icon to see if it looks like a system folder and not a regular folder. You can try dragging the System file out of the 2GB system folder, then dragging the system file out of the zip's folder, then replacing the zip file then the 2GB file. There is a utility called System Picker that will bless a certain system folder without all the gymnastics described here, but I can't seem to find it on apple's ftp site. If you're going to change HDs anyway, I would try b above - the HD is undoubtably spinning up before the zip and the rom is loading the blessed system from it before it reads the zip. If it will not boot mail me off list and I can dig you up a copy of System Picker and mail it to you. tom -- SuperMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
