I was thrown because Localtalk was shown as active, whereas the protocol I needed was Ethertalk!
Technically, the media you needed was Ethertalk. The protocol in both cases was probably Appletalk, but AppleTalk can be used over both LocalTalk and Ethernet (and Token Ring) depending on what hardware you have active.
