I have a few questions I couldn't find an adequate answer for using Google before I purchase a processor upgrade for my S900: 1. Can anyone think of any reasons why a PowerLogix G3 900MHz ZIF in an XLR8 CarrierZIF SSE (six-slot enabled) won't work in a S900? PowerLogix says it should work, but they won't provide tech support for it. 2. Is the XLR8 CarrierZIF SSE (MPe) required to use ZIFs in the S900 or can I get away with the cheaper XLR8 CarrierZIF? 3. Can anyone give me a straight answer about why there aren't any more XLR8 Mach Velocity + CarrierZIF dual G4 upgrades anymore? I've only been able to find two answers, one was a one-sentence explanation by XLR8 that they couldn't ever get it to work properly with OS X, though there are reviews that state the opposite, and the other is that Apple changed the multiprocessor architecture, which doesn't explain why OS 9.2.2 (os9helper install) detects (in Apple System Profiler) and uses dual processors (no visible slowdown while decompressing the gcc source tarball and web browsing simultaneously) on my Daystar nPower dual 604e @ 180MHz. 4. How much and what type of modification does it take to use a PC Socket7/370/A heasink/fan on a Macintosh ZIF socket? I'm not going to passively cool anything faster than 350MHz.
