First thank you to Jeff W for making it clear that the Apple 6 PCI slot problem with upgrades was only a G4 issue and not G3's.

Question: What is the difference between a G4 ZIF and a G4 PCI?

A G3/4 PCI upgrade is what CPU upgrades for machines like ours is called. This confuses people because it really plugs into the PDS (Processor Direct Slot) rather then a PCI slot. The Next line of Macs used Zif's that plugged into the Zif slot. This included the Beige G3 and B&W including the early G4 model .The G4 with AGP Video slot moved to a new type of CPU slot. Carrier cards were made which plug into the PDS in our machines (S900/J700) letting us use the cheaper Zif upgrades which the newer machines use. The carrier card plugs into the PDS slot and has a Zif slot where you can plug in your choice of Zif CPU. Hope that makes things clear ;-) Will S
