Thanks Drew and Jeff on the info on adapting a Dell PS. I might have one
sitting around but I have to check voltage on it too. So Jeff, it is my
understanding that the odds of my power problem is not likely due to mobo
related cause. (But since that is the lowest odds, my luck is that is the
prob. :)

It's something like this that I'm worried about after the machine received
the arc. We're talking smoke and small light show. But could be the PS
too.

I never tried the Firewire card on other machines but the usb card is brand
new and it clearly isn't sending enough power to the unit. The enclosure
works fine on other machines. Firewire appears to not send ANY bus power to
the unit as it won't even light up the led no matter which outlet I use.
Interestingly, this includes hooking it up to an external powered cd
firewire enclosure. When using the usb bus powered, it is barely providing
enough juice to light the drive, hardly enough to allow copying, which
usually causes a stall.

Jeff, all the slots being on the same power bus is good info.

Before doing a swap of machines, which I didn't get to yesterday, I will
check the voltage on this PS. Will, thanks for the added info. I needed to
make sure which wires were which and that it was ok to test while machine is
running normally. Is there a need for using a digital over standard meter
when checking? I have both but as you know, depending on application
sometimes one is needed over the other.

Confirmation from someone on this would be helpful.

Thanks,

Dave
