Hello folks, In a fit of probable insanity, I'm considering installing the 8.5/8.6 system CD that I bought several months ago into my J700, which has been working fine since the HD and PRAM battery replacement, also several months ago. Turns out that probably none of my HDs were bad, just a worn-out PRAM battery. I'll be attempting to install it onto a virgin 4.5GB drive, using the same procedure that I've used to install the 7.6.1 that I'm currently running. My questions are conceptual:
Is the code for 8.5/8.6 readable by our 604e processors? (I've always thought that 8.6 required a G3 processor). If so, is all the required hardware that 8.6 is expecting to be there, in the J700? Would OS9.x run on my 604e/J700 (180MHz)? Same questions as above apply here. Thanks in advance - I'm trying to get some understanding of this machine before it really becomes obsolete! ;-) cj -- SuperMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
