It might be a jumper setting, if the drive is configured for a delayed start. Or, it could be that the drive spins up slowly and the computer get tired of waiting on it and goes on with the boot process. (We had the slow spin-up problem with a drive we tried in our C600. We were not able to correct its faults and used another drive.)
You should be able to find the drive's jumper configurations on Segate's web site.
I'm also trying to get an IBM fast/narrow installed and can't figure the
jumpers out. There is nothing on the drive to indicate what pins are for
what SCSI positions. If anybody knows this sort of thing, please advise.
You should be able to find this drive's jumper info too. Do a little digging on IBM's site.
