I've got one and it has worked well. I was thinking more in terms of a card that will give maximum speed benefits if we build a RAID system with two or more of these 10K Ultra2 drives. What card would give us the optimal performance?
I would look at one of the Atto cards, but I'm not up on all of the compatabilities. It can become like a logic came in one of those standardized tests. If I install card A, I lose the ability to install card C, but I improve bus 2 and can only run OS lambda.
I like the UL2D from Atto which is a dual channel U2W card. However, I'm not sure that there is OSX support for it. You may have to go to the UL3D for OSX support which is probably a dual channel U160 card.
Atto keeps putting out dual channel cards because they use the LSI chipsets. LSI Logic keeps building chips that interface with a PCI slot on one side and provide two SCSI busses on the other side. The problem with the dual channel cards is that they all require an upper PCI slot as well.
You might look to see if Atto has a single channel U2W card, because the dual channel cards are going to demand one of the upper slots of the S900.
The Adaptec 2940U2B is very affordable on the used market and a decent card, but it demands an upper slot.
Another possibility is the Acard offerings. Has anyone tried the Acard 67160M? The big hitch is whether it works in a lower slot. If it doesn't, you're just as well off with the Adaptec 2940U2B which can be had fairly inexpensively. But we won't know unless someone has actually tried one. Ouch. I just checked the price and it's about $170 for the 67160M. No surprise if no one has tried it.
So the question here is, has anyone found a U2W card that works well in the lower four slots of the S900?
