For disk read & write rates: ATTO ExpressPro Tools (v2.8.2 is current) for pre-OSX systems is a standard. for the PDF: <http://www.attotech.com/protools.html> follow links to: <http://www.attotech.com/software/app1.html> It's a SCSI disk utility program and as such works on ATA drives attached to most PCI-IDE cards. I say most because I think there are some environments where these disks are not seen as SCSI. Note that the values obtained by such a benchmarking program charcterize the ensemble of system components involved (processor, PCI bus & slot, PCI or SCSI card & firmware, hard disk, hard disk firmware, cables, etc.). In other words, know the system variables and establish a protocol to follow. A more task-driven benchmarking program is MacBench. This might be the type more appropriate for your comparison, but you'd need an OLD version for that system. Or select a series of tasks yourself using the appropriate software and time the results. Check <barefeats.com> for ideas about doing this. For a Mystic, doing a Before & After comparison ought to be fun. -- SuperMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
