Alan, As you will discover, any version of Apple's drivers is useless with a burner, and the 5.3.1, it's hacked variants, as well as CDT without extraordinary measures will prevent you from recording CD-Rs, or using a second optical drive, for that matter, because it attaches the first drive it sees and won't let go. The simplest solution is to use Toast's CDR reader extension when booted from the hard drive, and to build bootable CDs using the later versions of Apple's CD-DVD driver. For convenience sake, you can leave them both active in the "Extensions" folder without conflict ;) With CD-R-RW burners and the later drivers, having an Apple ROM is a non-issue. It only becomes an issue when you want/need multiple optical drives, in which case using only Apple-ROMed SCSI drives when bootability is desired, and/or ATAPI/IDE drives for the readers is the most reliable.
