What had got me on the wrong track was the alert I would receive: "This startup disk will not work on this Macintosh model. Use the latest Installer to update this disk for this model."
So I was concentrating on the disk formatting when the problem turned out to be the Sonnet Processor Enabler software that I needed to reinstall correctly. I was just copying the various items from my 8.6 folder to 9.1 but apparently something deeper gets installed that is essential to operation. Mystery solved. Now I can begin to enjoy my circa 2000 operating system. > i'll be sad one day when i'll have to retire it, but > it's so well built and flexible, i don't know when > that time will come. I agree, it's been a great, long lasting computer with few problems for me. (the fan noise is a bit loud) (I can't boot from the CDrom drive...don't know why; never could) thanks again for your help. -- Walter Albertson: Visualizer http://www.walteralbertson.com -- SuperMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
