Hoffman,

I've tinkered with my s900 so many times that I have
lost video. Most of those times, the monitor clicks on
but the immediately clicks off as if it were in sleep
mode.

I've gotten video back a variety of ways. I'm not sure
which is correct because I've never systematically
gone through a check list, i just do everything and
eventually it pops back. Here are the things i do:

- Connect a different monitor.
- PRAM zap a fews times in a row. (at least 3 chimes
for me)
- hit the CUDA switch
- connect a different HD that contains a base OS 9.1
clean install while unplugging all other drives.
- unplug the power cord completely from the wall and
count to 5.

Again, i can't tell you how many times i've screwed
myself and lost video. I never ever pull the RAM or
the video card, so it's got to be one of those things
above. I have the ATI7000.

So to me, if it's not a physical thing, then it must
be in the startup of the computer (not the OS). so
perhaps, its the PRAM?

However, here's a snippet from some article online

"New to Mac OS X, the PRAM does not store display or
network settings. If you are experiencing video or
network problems, resetting PRAM will not help you.
When the PRAM is reset, you should verify your time
zone settings, startup volume settings, and volume
settings using the Mac OS X System Preferences
application. "

but for 9.1 here's another snippet "PRAM, a small
portion of volatile RAM, whose contents are kept by a
small battery. The Parameter Random Access Memory
holds information such as StartUp disk selection, Date
and Time, monitor resolution and depth, alert sound
information, and much more. If the PRAM gets
corrupted, many strange happenings can occur. Ports
may not work, the date and time may reset on every
restart, sounds may not work correctly, and a whole
lot more."
