Here is a link that doesn't do anything for me.

I get a "click here to get the plugin" graphic, but when I click, I get
a "transferring data from plugdoc.mozdev.org" message in the tray, but
nothing ever happens.

This is an embedded mid (midi file) on Mac Quicktime plays Fine.
RealPlayer would would play it. I am sure there are plenty of Media Players that would play it.

For this link,
http://www.w3schools.com/media/tryit.asp?filename=trymedia_soundwaveobject
the page says, "playing the object", but there is no sound.

The second is supposed to be a .wav (wave) file again QT would play on Mac, and again there are plenty of sound players that would play it. However they've screwed up the code for using object, instead of embed

I maintain a web site for a small historical society (for free), and
they asked me if I could possibly post some sound files they have
(recordings of people, etc). I know how to write the html, but I decided
to make sure I could get audio files to play in my own browser to make
sure I could check for dependencies, etc. I find at the moment I cannot
play audio files, so I need to address that first. If I click on a link,
I get the standard, "what do I do with this file type" message. That
allows me to download the file and play it with media player, etc, but I
don't think that is quite what they want.

I am playing around with web based sound files, but I find when I
click a link, I get prompt to specify the application that I want to
use to play the file. This downloads the file and then plays it with
an app on my computer. Is there a way to have seamonkey play the sound
file without the user having to download a file? Would a helper be
needed or could this be embedded.

Please ask if I am not clear.

I am using 1.1.17 in case that matters.

Can you give an example or two?
My SM 1117 can stream embedded sound files, if they are coded correctly.
