Because there is something in your system that conflicts with them for some reason.
I personally have had various versions of SM installed in Win2K, XP and 7 as well as Red Hat Linux. I have installed it on numerous computers as the main browser, including on all my company's computers. None has caused me the types of problems you mention. I don't know anyone who has those problems.
