First, make a backup of everything SM related, profile, etc.

Now, there was an old trick in Netscape to recover a missing profile.

Create a NEW profile and name it the same exact name as your missing
profile and see what happens. Sometimes a new profile is created and the
old one is appended with a -1 such as profilename-1. If this happens,
you may be able to start SM using the profile manager rather than just
starting SM.
