even I have a hard time seeing what this all has to do with the Profile

that is broken.
so what is it - a bug or a guess? How does PM have anything to do with
the file path?
It's a real, genuine, formally documented bug - read the bug I cited;
I read the bug you cited - itsd still open for assignment. And it isn't
"real" - the documenting I saw was all your input, nothing more.
Then you read the wrong bug...there' plenty of SM developer input,
including the suggestion that I stop invoking the Profile Manager at
startup.
Bug 724293 status is "NEW" and it has been partially worked - even
assigned a target release for a fix at one point...which came and went,
I think.
Yes, it's unassigned, but it's open...therefore it is a real and
standing bug. That no one is fixing it is over to the developers to
sort out.
You haven't answered the question - what does PM have to do with opening
files?
It's not for me to answer - it's *my* question as to the developer's
suggestion for the *partial* workaround. Even now if I invoke PM at
startup SM won't launch and open a link in an e-mail if I click it.
It's their spaghetti code, not mine - let them explain it.
I have no knowledge of OS X but every other OS I've seen doesn't work
this way...
That doesn't surprise me, and that's fine - I've said over and over that
I think this is an OS X specific bug.
