The attachment pane is normally hidden unless you click the little
triangle to the left of the "Subject:" line. (That triangle also reveals
details like From:, To:, etc.) Once you reveal it, you can then
right-click filenames to save attachments, open them, etc. This is true
in all the versions you mention.

As for viewing the messages themselves, what happens if you double-click
instead of single-clicking? Don't you get a new window with the message
displayed?

I don't know what you mean by an "attachment pane." I have chosen to
display details like Recipient, Subject, Attachment paperclip, From,
Date, Size. There are headers for all these in my listing of messages
in each mail folder. This info is in the pane above the one in which
the message itself is displayed. Until today, when I played around with
updating, if the message had an attachment there would be a listing of
attachments at the top of the message (maybe that's what you mean by the
attachment pane), and I could access the attachment by clicking on the
relevant attachment. Left-click to open the attachment, right click to
get a drop down menu to do what you mention.

Ahhh, now I begin to see what you're saying -- my messages no longer
have any headers displayed: no Subject:, To:, From:, CC:, Date:. How
do I get this back?

Please read the first two lines of my previous message.
