mail.enable_autocomplete
Most of the time I like having it true. However there are times that
I want what I want and it refuses to keep only what I type (without
"<" and ">") remaining as-is, insisting on auto-completing to
auto-collected idiotic Yahoo munged mailing list addresses I wish
could be permanently forgotten, e.g.:
Felix Miata [email protected] [dfsee-support]
<[email protected]>
and 'Jan van Wijk' [email protected] [dfsee-support]
<[email protected]>
As it's a collected address it will always be returned to history
when an email I sent to the list comes as a normal list email, so
deleting from history is pointless.
I tried adding the addresses manually to address book using empty
First, Last and Display, but they get discarded before I get a chance
to use them a second time.
Does anyone know any workaround?
Don't worry about history, that's not where email addresses are stored.
Do CTRL-5 and delete these bad addresses from "Collected Addresses."
If you prefer to edit and retain them, edit them in CA (right-click the
entry and choose "Properties") and then drag and drop them to your
Personal Address Book or other AB as you please.
Of course, if SM sees them again in a future message, it'll add them
back to CA again. You can block all address collection by unchecking:
Edit | Preferences | Mail & Newsgroups | Addressing:
[ ] Add email addresses to my: [Collected Addresses]
I don't recommend that, but it's up to you.
You can also tell SM to look/not look in your PAB when autocompleting in
the same dialog at
When addressing messages, look in:
[x] Local Address Books
As for posting to mailing lists, don't write to individuals. Save the ML
address and write to that: DFSee <[email protected]> (give
it a nickname if you like -- "dfsee" for example, so SM will fill in the
rest). If you don't feed the CA list bad addresses, it won't learn them.
