Is it possible to have a sig file for some of the news groups on a UseNet server, e.g., one of the contributors to a Linux group has suggested (shown me how to) adding a sig file which shows which version of Linux I use, but as I'm posting today using Win7 that might not be appropriate. And in a Win7 NG having a Linux sigfile might not be appreciated ... and, in a Star Trek NG, they are probably not the slightest bit interested in what OS I'm using. Etc., etc.

Probably not, without using some extension. A check of addons.mozilla.org/en-us/seamonkey turns up nothing of interest for a search of "signature".

In Thunderbird, the most prominent tool is Signature Switch https://addons.thunderbird.net/en-us/thunderbird/addon/signature-switch/ . It's TB only, but it might be possible to to use the Seamonkey conversion tool at http://addonconverter.fotokraina.com/, and get it to run under Seamonkey.
