Liz and others,

I would imagine the web approach would reduce volume as it takes a more
proactive stance to ask/answer questions.  I'd also suspect that people
would get fewer answers less quickly.  Despite the volume, which has
been difficult for me lately, I prefer the listserv approach.  Early on
I serendipitously learned a ton about ebase and how it works through the
listserv - by reading messages that didn't pertain directly to me.  That
very experience is part of why I am such a strong advocate of ebase. 
That and the fact that you can get quick responses to questions without
the bulk of a website (which can be cumbersome if you only use a dial-up
connection like many of us small non-profits).  Finally, I can use email
filters and/or my own sensibilities to wade through the volume.
