Oops...I forgot the final steps. The new column you have created is a calculation based on the one with all caps. When you delete the all caps column, the new column loses its reference (#REF) for the calculation. Here is the solution.
With the ALL CAPS column and the lower case column still there:
1) Create another new column.
2) Highlight the lower case column and hit "copy"
3) Highlight the new empty column, and go to Edit ---> Special Paste
4) Click on "Values"
5) Now you can (and should) delete the ALL CAPS column and the lower case calculated column.
Thanks for the compliments on my instructions. After two years training and troubleshooting folks in the field (via phone and email) on computers, I have learned to be 100% explicit in my computer instructions -- to the point of insulting people's intelligence occasionally!
