Thanks for your advice.   I have File Maker on a network but I am the only one who uses it at this time since we still only have one copy of FMP.

My remarks were really directed at a PC as that is what I am familiar with. I believe they are roughtly true of Macs as well.

Are file ebase files on your machine or a shared disk? Are you networked? Are you running FMP Server? All of these potentially have different answers.

Are you on a Mac or PC?

That information is critical to giving informed advise, especially on problems like this that sound like they are some Operating System problem.

First quess, your operating system is having problems. Did you try rebooting? Did you install anything new recently?
If Ok after a reboot, don't worry about the problem, both Windows and Mac OS are prone to overwriting their core code and causing random problems. If you installed something new, you may have broken the OS in some way. These usually don't go away on a reboot, and a reinstall may be needed, or at least an uninstalll of the new program.

Twice today this has happened to me with two different records.  I was trying to delete a record and got a message "Sorry File Maker is unable to read the disk this file is on.  Check continue to try again or click exit and copy this file to another disk".

Clicking continue does nothing and clicking exit closes the program.

I did do a back up on CD after this happened.

I can still open and use the program.

Does it sound like I have a major problem or is this just a couple of freak incidents?
